Kelso

About an hour from Cima is a ghost town called Kelso. It was a depot and train fueling stop back in the days of steam locomotives crossing the lengthy Mojave Desert. The depot building has been restored and can be visited as a sort of museum, and is pretty cool if you are into that kind of thing.
I like odd and historic buildings, so while I didn't care about the railroad I did enjoy seeing the building and the remnants of the ghost town. (I do love ghost towns. Totally.)
There aren't many buildings left in Kelso, a few foundations and a couple of houses (not occupied, boarded up and locked). And this post office. The post office appeared to have been in operation recently, or at least preserved in some way.
When I was about to leave Kelso, I went outside the depot and watched a guy running a locomotive. Just as he got ready to go he tooted the locomotive horn. Now, this word "toot" applies to his locomotive horn sort of like "drizzle" would apply to the great flood Noah narrowly escaped. That horn blasted like it was going to shake every cell in my body and decompose my brain into goo, leading to a slow agonizing death. I think the engineer had fun with that. I probably would have, if I had been him.
