Mormon Row

There are some places that lend themselves to photography such that it is impossible to take a bad picture. This is one of them. However, it is not impossible to screw the photograph up in Photoshop afterward. I still have a lot to learn. I couldn't figure out whether the color or B&W one was better, so they are both here.

This is a place called Mormon Row. Apparently, lots of Mormons immigrated to Wyoming around 1890 and built a bunch of farms next to each other along this one road in Jackson Hole. For the most part all the buildings are abandoned and decaying which, combined with the Grand Teton mountains behind them, make for really great photos.

When we planned the trip to Yellowstone, flying in and out of Jackson, I had researched and found this area as a mecca for photographers. Being a fledgling and amateur photographer, I immediately set my sights on this. The only problem was that going here was a uniquely me thing to do, and I would have to drag my wife out there. Watching someone else take photos is incredibly boring so I had almost despaired of getting out to Mormon Row.

Buuuut.... the flight wasn't until 2, and it was 11, and the airport was only an hour away.... yay! I made it out there. I hiked around the old farms, took the standard photos that a thousand others had taken before me, and had an orgasmic time. The Tetons were heavy with snow, the grass green from spring, and the sky perfect blue. There was a little house with a three room B&B down the road and bison grazing nearby.

Later that day we flew home through some extremely bumpy weather. Yuck.
